How to Make a Natural Homemade Deodorant?

Why a Natural Deodorant?

Published scientific studies have warned that antiperspirants and deodorants can be related to breast cancer because these products usually contain some harmful substances (parabens and aluminium), which can be absorbed through the skin or enter our body through smallcuts caused by axillary shaving.

Aluminium-based compounds are used as the active ingredient in antiperspirants and may be absorbed by the skin.

Parabens are used as a preservative in deodorants and were found by researchers in breast cancer tissue.

To minimize this potential risk, we can do a natural homemade deodorant without parabens and aluminium.

This deodorant is quite effective, very easy to prepare and a cheaper alternative to commercial deodorants.

Foods That Improve Your Sleep Naturally

Most of the time, sleep issues can result from low levels of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland in the center of our brain that helps regulate other hormones, regulates sleep and controls the body’s circadian cycle. Melatonin is a strong antioxidant and published research indicated that melatonin has also strong protection against cancer.

The body’s own melatonin production helps us fall asleep: that is well known! That's why its production is so important for a good night's sleep, but natural melatonin levels decline considerably with age.

Melatonin supplements can help the disrupted circadian cycles and have slight benefits. They can be used by people suffering with occasional insomnia and may help prevent jet lag but only under the supervision of a doctor, because eventual side effects or drug interactions and also because wrong amounts of melatonin or at the wrong time of day can be dangerous to health. However, what you eat can make the difference to your quality sleep.

Foods that are able to increase melatonin production improve the quality of sleep. They can provide natural ways to help us sleep well.
There are some foods that can improve your sleep naturally, without drugs, boosting melatonin production naturally, avoiding the need for supplements.

Here are some of them:

1. Bananas

This fruit can help your sleep. Bananas contain potassium and magnesium, which are natural muscle relaxants. They are also a rich source of the amino acid L-tryptophan. L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid vital to our rest and precursor to melatonin and serotonin (serotonin and melatonin are both hormones that regulate several human functions, including the sleep).

2. Warm milk

Drinking a glass of warm milk before bed can work as a sleep inducer. Dairy products are rich in the amino acid tryptophan, which helps in the production of the sleep inducing brain chemicals melatonin and serotonin. Other reason is that drinking warm milk can increase our internal body temperature which is relaxing and make us sleepy.

3. Pineapple

Besides its digestive benefits, pineapple actually can help you get to sleep because it’s an abundant source of melatonin boosters. According to researchers, pineapple raises serum levels of melatonin.

4. Almonds

Almonds contain the amino acid tryptophan and are rich in magnesium, a mineral which is a muscle relaxant and needed for quality sleep. They might help you get to sleep better.

5. Oats

Oats are a rich source of amino acids and a natural food source of melatonin. They help the body produce melatonin more naturally and can cause drowsiness. They are also rich sources of vitamins and minerals. You can take them mixed with milk and honey before bedtime.

6. Cherries

Published studies have indicated that cherry juice also supplies melatonin and improves sleep. They are also an abundant source of melatonin boosters. Drink a glass of cherry juice or eat a cup of whole cherries in the evening may help you sleep better at night.

7. Walnuts

Walnuts are known as a great source of tryptophan. According to researchers, they can also help you fall asleep faster and improve the quality of your sleep.

I hope it could help you sleep better through the night!

How to make French Palmiers (easy recipe)

I just love Palmiers made from puff pastry! The recipe I’m sharing with you here is delicious and you can prepare it quickly at home. It’s really easy to make these Palmiers!

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet rectangular puff pastry
  • about 1 cup of sugar (add sugar to taste)
  • cinnamon sugar (optional)
You can make yourself  the puff pastry at home but there’s no need, you can buy it already made.
For the sugar, I prefer coarse-grained sugar but you can use the kind of sugar you like most.

Directions

1. How to fold and shape the Palmiers

  • If your puff pastry is frozen, thaw it first in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C (390 degrees F).
  • Spread sugar on the counter and roll out the puff pastry.
  • Press softly on the sugar.
  • Sprinkle your puff pastry with sugar, over the surface.
  • Mark the middle of the pastry.
  • Fold right and left sides to the middle.
  • Add a little more sugar.
  • Then fold the dough in half again lengthwise.
  • Fold right and left sides of the dough toward the inside until they meet in the middle. More layers will give the palmiers a more rounded aspect.
  • At the end, fold the left side over the right side like closing a book.
  • Press the sugar softly into the dough with a rolling pin or with your fingers to help sugar adherence.
  • Place the dough on a tray and bring to the freezer for 15 minutes to cool and harden mass a little.
  • After 15 minutes, remove from freezer.
  • Spread sugar again on the counter and place the dough on it.
  • With a sharp knife, slice the dough into individual pieces about 1cm (1/2 inch) thick.
  • Dip both sides into the cinnamon sugar (optional).

2. After cutting the Palmiers put them on a tray with parchment paper.

3. Place in the oven preheated to 200° C for 15 minutes (or until they begin to dark golden).

4. Remove from the oven after 15 minutes.

Enjoy your palmiers!

Many people suffer from acne. This embarrassing situation is often responsible for the reduced self-esteem of the person, especially in teenage years. Adults can also suffer from acne. There are several reasons that adults can get acne as some hormonal disorders or stress, among others.

It is important to treat acne effectively and there are a few homemade facial masks that can help. Here is one easy natural homemade mask that can reduce your acne. It is inexpensive and easy to do yourself.

Egg whites are excellent for treating acne. They help reduce excess sebum in our skin by shrinking the size of your pores, as well as firm and tone the skin.

Lemon also helps you to get rid of acne. Actually, lemon is a a great natural tool for several healthy problems due to its vitamin value and antibacterial properties!

The combination of lemon and egg white is considered to be a great face mask for acne and oily skins.

Why Egg White Mask?
  • reduces acne
  • heals acne scars effectively making them less visible
  • helps rebuild healthy skin cells
  • helps absorbing excess skin oils that can clog the pores

How to make and apply it?

1.       Ingredients:
  • 1 egg white
  • ½ a lemon (juice)

2.      Mask
Separate the egg white from the yolk.
In a small bowl, whisk the egg white until frothy.
Mix the lemon juice to the egg white.
Rinse your face with warm water and pat dry.
Apply a layer in your face with your fingers (avoid the eyes and mouth zone).
Let the mask dry for about 20 minutes.
Rinse completely and pat skin dry.

Make sure you are using freshly squeezed lemon juice. Some people make this mask without lemon juice, using only the egg white. You'll can try both versions and verify what works better for you, concerning the effects on the type of your skin problems.
